Ends on July 17, 2019

please note: This open call isn't to simply send in examples of your work, rather to respond to the questions posed below:

Hand lettering is the art of drawing letters to express emotion, deliver style and communicate ideas. It is illustrating letters.

How does hand lettering make words more impactful or inspiring? How can lettering create a mood or express emotion? How do you use hand lettering in your own creativity? Hand-letter your answer! It can be as succinct or as long as you like: a word, a phrase or a paragraph. Please read the entire form for more details.

In this open call, digital tools and touch-ups are a-ok, but don't use fonts to achieve a "lettering look" (that's typography, not lettering). Please note that this open call is not specifically for traditional calligraphy—the art of writing letters—though calligraphy technique and style can certainly influence one’s lettering.

Submit your piece via this form (take a photo or scan your work) and then (optional) mail the artwork to UPPERCASE to be photographed with other submissions and exhibited for the launch of this issue in October. (Submissions cannot be returned.)

Submission form closes on July 16, 2019.

Mailed submissions should arrive by July 22, 2019.
